Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Trailer and Impressions

Call of Duty is a monster of a franchise. Over the course of a multitude of games, Infinity Ward and Treyarch have taken us to the bowels of European trenches, into the untamed jungles of Vietnam, and now to the near future with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The year is 2025. A new conflict has taken hold of the planet with two of humanity’s super powers gridlocked in a Neo-Cold War. China and the United States are the opposing bodies of the struggle, with conflict beginning after a cyber attack cripples the Chinese Stock Exchange. Check out the trailer below:

Robots, mechanized war machines, and sleek, futuristic aircrafts add to the post-modern aesthetic that is Black Ops 2. And did you see that walking tank? I’m digging the new angle that Black Ops 2 is taking; maybe they should call it Post-Modern Warfare 3 instead? Hopefully the guys at Treyarch will approach this new installment as a way of expanding upon the Call of Duty series and not just a medium to show an onslaught of future tech. I like cool gadgets and gizmos as much as the next person but I hope that Black Ops 2 will have well developed mechanics and at least a decent plot. All I can say is that I was a huge fan of the original Black Ops and I cannot wait to see what imaginative additions make their way into the multiplayer.

What are your impressions of the Black Ops 2 trailer? Do you think loyal fans of the franchise will be open to such a blatant change?

Black Ops 2 will be released on 11/13/12.

All we need is Tiberium and laser turrets, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II looks like a first person shooter version of Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Seeing as that was set in 2030, it’ll be interesting to see how both game developers imagined how war would be fought in that time period.

I also hope the developers include Mod tools, like they did with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, so someone can make a Command and Conquer mod for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. 😀
