Video games inspire a multitude of emotions; irritation derived from dying numerous times in a row or happiness due to besting a challenging boss. Humor and laughter is often left out of the occasion. What many games lack, and some fail to appreciate is the amazing effect that comedy can have in delivering a memorable, entertaining experience.  Take a look at 3 funny songs from video games ranging from sarcastic musical numbers, to melodic alien solos.

1. DK Rap

 Game: Donkey Kong 64

Description: Released in 1999, Donkey Kong 64 introduced a series of new characters, 3D platforming mechanics, and additional upgrades to the DK series. Rivaling other N64 classics such as Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64’s claim to fame was the catchy opening song that has characterized the franchise for more than a decade since its release. The concept of five monkeys involved in a rap session is so ridiculous that it just works.

2. Scientist Salarian

 Game: Mass Effect 2

Description:  Mordin Solus is a geneticist, professor, and a former operative of the Special Tasks Group, where he performed reconnaissance and participated in the modification of the genophage. Beyond his cold, logical nature, the amphibian Solus is a musical genius and prevous Broadway performer. Witness perhaps his most memorable moment within the entire series, the rendition of “Scientist Salarian”.

3. Want You Gone End Credits Song

 Game: Portal 2

Description: Portal 2 thrusts players into an internal struggle between the saucy, AI GLaDOS, and returning test subject Chell. Despite being a computer, GLaDOS’ sarcasm is of professional caliber. Throughout the game she throws insults at Chell like fireworks on 4th of July but in the end, she gives up on killing the silent protagonist, GlaDOS only wants her gone.
