Majora’s Mask Wii U Details Released

UPDATE 1/4/2013: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Wii U petition has been updated. To show your support, click on this link.

Nintendo fans rejoice, there is a  possibility that a Legend of Zelda classic will hit the next generation of consoles in style. There were rumors floating around on Youtube about a potential Majora’s Mask leak for Wii U during E3. Despite the hearsay, we have some details from the creators themselves, Pablo Belmonte and Paco Martinez, who had this to say:

[quote-symbol symbol5]
“We are creating this small test for the “big N” as a proposal for make this project true.

We work in the game industry and we are in love with this idea long time ago. The music are totally provisional. We worked for long time in concepts and designs, but for the real production we expend only one (hard) week, thats the reason of some “bugs” in animations and postproduction that we want to fix soon.

We hope that you enjoy and help us with your support.”
We can only assume that “big N” is referring to Nintendo, and that Belmonte and Martinez are attempting to convince Ninendo to give the go-ahead for the Majora’s Mask Project. The reality is, this is a fan project so there is no telling if Nintendo will respond favorably. As a huge fan myself, I would love to see one of the most unique installments to the series in fully-fledged HD brilliance. If you haven’t seen the teaser trailer for yourself, check it out below:

What are your opinions about Majora’s Mask Wii U? Belmonte and Martinez did a great job on the initial trailer, do you think Nintendo should approve the project? For those who would like to see it become a reality, sign the petition here.

Someone should make a petition so gamers who support Majoras Mask for the wii u can sign it and send it to Nintendo.

    • zem

It’s just a fan project. Nintendo are not remaking Majora’s Mask for Wii U.

    • Taylor Stein

We can all dream, and hope!

They should make it for the 3ds if anything since they remade ocarina of time for it, then zelda fans wont have to buy 3 consoles this gen just to play all the zelda games. I wont be getting a wii u, the concept is stupid, its basically a wii with a gamegear that has wifi. thats stupid, as would be a remake of majoras mask for it, dont get me wrong i love the game but i wont buy a wii u just to play it.

    • Taylor Stein

I played around with it at E3 and i still don’t get the Wii U! It’s just a Wii with a gamepad. Now instead of 4-player there will be…5-player? Not too impressive, but your right, a 3DS reboot would seem to make more sense. Plus I own one of those so I wouldn’t be left out :)

    • Anonymous guy :D

Why not make one for 3ds AND wii u? That way people who are going to get wiius and people who have 3dses, niether complain!

  • Amir

I think it would be a major mistake if Nintendo decided against this opportunity. Since the Nintendo 64 (which I still play now), I have stuck mainly with Sony; owning systems such as the PS2 and switching between 360 and PS3. [Although I did own Gamecube for a good year]. This is chiefly due to my disappointment with the Wii’s inferior hardware (performance) and software features native to the system itself. Furthermore, most Wii games lack depth and appeal mainly to children. If Nintendo’s team were smart, they would release ‘grown-up’ titles such as what they plan to do with WiiU in order to regain its current generation’s fan base. Additionally, they would revamp the Legend of Zelda series by remaking old titles while making original titles at the same time. As one Youtuber suggested, This would break the habit of a 4 year Zelda life cycle by keeping it fresh for Zelda releases in only 2 year differences.

I can really relate to your point of view. I grew up with the N64, and still go back to play from time to time. I love the big Nintendo franchises: Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mario, etc, but the Wii offered very few additions to these series, and instead capitalized on the causal gaming market with motion control gaming.

Like you said, I’d love to see a change of direction with Nintendo. A shift towards “grown up” titles is necessary to not only compete with Microsoft and Sony, but to appeal and reconnect to their loyal fan base. With the Wii U they’ve obviously taken the first step by incorporating third party titles into their repitoire of games, but it could very well be to little too late especially with the Xbox 720 now on the horizon.

It’s interesting that they make Zelda games so infrequently too. Whether it is a remake or an original title, slap the name Legend of Zelda on a game and there will be those who flock to it.

    • Alex

lol wtf are you talking about? The Wii has the Mario Galaxies and Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword. There has always been 1 or 2 core Zelda/Mario games per console and the Wii has 2 of both Zelda and Mario (though lacking in Metroid). You’re talking about how the Wii U has third party support? The Wii u has the least 3rd party support out of every Nintendo console, even EA officially stopped providing games for them and Ubisoft has uneasy feelings towards them due to the relative failure of zombie u. They release Zelda games infrequently because they spend a lot of time developing them since the series has a high standard to live up to.

Nintendo, for some reason keeps passing up the chance of bringing back games that would increase their market. Like downloadable old school games in the 3DS Eshop, they didn’t bother bringing back the old pokemon versions but they brought back games no one has even heard of. -.- They also could have made black or white 2 for the 3DS and made a ton of money off of that too and it’s features would have pleased Nintendo fans. Gameboy advance games should also remake an appearance. They keep bringing back OoT… it wasn’t even the best Zelda game >.> every time I hear someone say, “OoT is the best” in the back of my mind I am saying, “what the heck do you know?” “You’re just excited about it because everyone is talking about it, you franchise-fan-wannabe.” >: (

  • JD

I would pay an absurd amount of money for this, that’s how much I love the idea of a remake and quality of the teaser. Although I would prefer that it be done professionally with both Belmonte and Martinez on the team. The best part is that Nintendo could play with innovative ideas for a remake, such as new weapons, masks, side quests, motion controls, an unlockable “Master Quest” style version like they did with OoT 3D, other unlockables like concept art and videos, multiplayer minigames, more interactive characters and environments, more upgrade-able weapons, and my personal favorite idea: a larger, sand-box style map (not including the dungeons) with more obstacles to overcome as you travel to different areas.

    • http://www.gamergirltay.com/ Taylor Stein

As someone who got every single mask, completed just about every sidequest there was when I was a little kid, I would absolutely love to see a suped up version of Majora’s Mask. Can you imagine doing the Goht boss fight (giant bull in second temple) in HD??? It would be epic!

I really like your idea about the unlockables and even the sandbox style. It could really add some interesting elements to the series and increase the game’s longevity. Great ideas.

  • randel kid

please for the love of GOD make this game!!! I would literally suck someones dick if they were to create this timeless masterpiece!

    • http://www.gamergirltay.com/ Taylor Stein

You are dedicated!!! But I’m sure there are a ton of people who would go to those lengths to see Majora’s Mask on the Wii U :)

    • Justin Time

      agreed.

    • VeryVeryMonster

I’d give out free handies in the toilets of Mcdonald’s for 3 weeks to get this to happen, maybe even suck one or two off, maybe even anal…. MAKE THIS GAME PLEASE!

    • http://www.facebook.com/Cyphros Clayton Toth

      Me too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Cyphros Clayton Toth

      agreed.

I want this game. I would much rather have a full fledged remake on the Wii U with loads of additional content (like you could add the Adult’s Mask back into the game and we could interact with the Townspeople as an Adult and see how differently Link is treated. That in itself could create even more awesome sidequests!) instead of just a port onto the 3DS with better graphics.

Nintendo please do this! This is my favorite Zelda game and I want to be able to play it with these graphics and with loads of additional content! :D

As an extremely avid fan of The Legend Of Zelda series, and with Majora’s Mask as my second favorite Zelda game (preceded by Ocarina Of Time and Skyward Sword in my favorite spot), I would adore seeing this title remastered. I’m buying the WiiU solely for the new Zelda game rumored to come out for it sometime in the future, but if the Majora’s Mask remake comes out before the new Zelda game, I’ll gladly buy the WiiU sooner. I was very disappointed in the Wii, I only bought it for Twilight Princess and eventually Skyward Sword, no other games on the Wii seemed to live up to Zelda, save for a few Nintendo games and some Dragon Ball Z games. The prospect of what the WiiU will be, makes it already seem like it’s a huge improvement from the first Wii. After viewing the teaser trailer, I will definitely see if there’s a follow up on the idea, and when/if Majora’s Mask for the WiiU comes out, I will be buying it the day of its release as well as the console.

  • Bitchimo

I have been a fan of the Legend of Zelda series for my whole life and I love MM. But I think it should be up to Nintedo to decide if they want to do a remake of the old game. The old game is just awesome and shure, the technology we have today would make it look gorgeous but it is the story that make the game. I say that they should be concentrating on a new story,a new game.

  • JustinTime

so is it gonna happen? Said the voting thing closed. I’d totally vote for A Majora’s mask remake. There’s already an ocarina of time remake but this would be way more badass! I think I fell in love when I watched the trailer

I will buy the Wii U console, BUT only if they remake this awesome game! My heart nearly dropped out of my ass when I saw the trailer. The nostalgic emotions just washed over me: excitement, sorrow, anger, suspense…everything experienced at once. To be able to play the game in HD….the though just blows my mind away. Nintendo, what are you waiting for?! DO IT ALREADY!

    • http://www.facebook.com/Cyphros Clayton Toth

      AMEN.

  • Ellis

I WOULD BUY A WII U JUST FOR THIS GAME

  • ZeldafanBenny

I my god I want this game!!!!!!
pleaz nintendo do all the zelda fans a favour and do it!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Cyphros Clayton Toth

Majora’s Mask for Wii U, I really hope it happens. Majora’s Mask is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Ocarina Of Time. Imo, OoT is over rated and Majora’s Mask is not getting the recognition it deserves. It was a challenging and fun game with lots of fun secrets and kick ass items to collect. Links other formes where bad ass and I hope we get to see the return of the all mighty, Deity Link! Also, kinda off subject but they should also bring back the Banjo-Kazooie franchise. Microsoft kinda killed it. >.>

  • http://twitter.com/Niminae Serisa

As much as I respect 3DS fans, I can honestly say I was really put out when the long awaited OoT remake was released for a handheld console. That remake had so much more potential on something like the Wii U (though at the time, we didn’t know much about it). Majora’s Mask is my favorite Zelda by a long shot, and I want to see its full potential in a remake. I’m really excited about this idea; the trailer simply blew me away. Nintendo, this could be a huge benefit to your company. Please don’t pass this up!

    • http://mammoth-you.tumblr.com/ Himyoume

completely agree. Zelda deserves a BIG SCREEN. i hated playing it on a handheld.

  • Jamie

Make the game, but release it for the 3DS, especially that it’ll give more people the chance to play it.

  • HarliquinnDread

    I’ll sign this petition, definitely.

This can be awesome. Although I am in favor of Grezzo work on Majora’s Mask for 3DS, I can also see the bright side of having it be on Wii U, and especially being done by fans. Fans of the Zelda series, or any series in general, have a completely different view on the series than the actual developers do. There are many ideas in many of our minds that I’m sure Eiji Aonuma would never think of. I think if these guys developed MM for Wii U, it would be fantastic. I’d love to see how they can take the game to a whole new next level. I’m on board for this one (even though I’m also on board for MM3D).
