UPDATE 1/4/2013: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Wii U petition has been updated. To show your support, click on this link.

This past summer, two video game industry veterans challenged Nintendo to breathe new life into an N64 classic, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Pablo Belmonte and Paco Martinez released a teaser trailer on YouTube in July 2012 that showcased a  familiar Majora’s Mask sequence only with souped-up HD graphics and sound; easily transporting the original into the modern era.

At inception, rumors spread like wildfire. Bloggers and media outlets claimed that Nintendo accidentally leaked the video, with buzz that Majora’s Mask for the Wii U was already in the works. After a little bit of digging and a hearty serving of fact-checking, it was confirmed that the YouTube video was in fact an unofficial project made by Belmonte and Martinez for Nintendo to propose a Majora’s Mask Wii U remake. Majora's Mask Wii U
[quote-symbol symbol5]“We are creating this small test for the ‘big N’ as a proposal to make this project come true. We work in the game industry and we fell in love with this idea a long time ago. The music is totally provisional. We worked for a long time in concepts and designs, but for the real production we spent only one (hard) week, that’s the reason of some “bugs” in animations and post-production that we want to fix soon. We hope that you enjoy and help us with your support.”
The reality is, this is a fan project so there is no telling if Nintendo will respond favorably. As a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, I would love to see one of the most unique installments to the series in fully-fledged HD brilliance. Recently, a fan-made petition circled the web in support of Majora’s Mask Wii U. It has since expired and a new petition has been made. What are your opinions about Majora’s Mask on the Wii U? Do you think Nintendo should approve the project?

Majora’s Mask is one of the most underrated LoZ titles and it is absolutely deserving of a Wii U overhaul. I wouldn’t mind seeing it on the 3DS either.

I agree with you (especially considering I have a 3DS), but with the creators aiming for the Wii U, I’ll support what I can get at this point.

We all know MM is overlooked, underrated and got overshadowed by OoT . Thank You Nintendo, MM is an
instant classic gem, I am just glad that I will have another chance to beat it
and this time as a remake version , I wish ya consider releasing Ocarina of
Time on Wii U too , loved the 3DS version but come on OoT deserve this just
like MM.. Can’t wait to chat with the Children of the Moon at that Tree

Both Nintendo and gamers would have benefit if this happens! Please Nintendo, we want the remake weather the trailer is real or fake we do like the idea and want the game!

This would bring my childhood back. I had to sell my n64 and MM, so this would be a wonderful thing if I could play this gem………. PLEASE NINTENDO, THIS DESERVES THE REMAKE!

  • Henry Johnston

Oh, come ON!!!! Really? Everyone knows this turned out to be a big, fat fraud! Why is this even still here? As much as I love Majora’s Mask, I hate to admit that this is all fake.

Just take my soul away PLEASSSE!!!!!!! =’]
I have been waiting for a remake this whole time…YUUUSH
Fuck Roms! Once i saw the video my mind just changed about getting the Wii U.

FOOOK YEEEA.(Sorry for the random shit….I’m f’ing excited ppl xDD)

    • Honzo Caputo

I’m definitely asking for WAAAY too much but a Custom Majora’s mask wii u to introduce the game would be sweeeet

  • Tyler

In my personal opinion a 3DS remake of MM would fare far better than one for the Wii U as many more Zelda fans would have a 3DS and not a Wii U, while many do have the Wii U, many more have the 3DS

  • julia

yea that would be really cool to make a remake so people get into the legend of Zelda story and they would like to get more games I think its a great idea

  • Supernova

I’m a game specialist my only problem with the legend of Zelda majora’s mask remake is the slant of bringing a story up until today children of this generation will be lost with Zelda majora’s mask the impact may be a miss when this game was out I was 9, at 22 I still see the specialness in this game but our youths for today weren’t born then they were either infants are too young the uniqueness in this game is the alterations of the mask and using them to solve puzzles! All our kids know today is hitting the “R” trigger to shoot em’ up in call duty or select the A, or B character to throw to the right receiver in a madden game.

    • Linklee

I have to agree with you. Seems like the young generations today lack the patience to even attempt games that lean towards problem solving. If it isn’t convenient or guided, then it quickly loses their interests. At the same turn of the coin I believe this is why we need more games to be released with that aspect, if nothing else but to reacquaint today’s society with a strive at a goal that may seem impossible at first hand. I believe that with the Zelda series, the story in itself is enough to push a desire of not just needing, but wanting to achieve that goal, of wanting to go that extra mile just to see the outcome and the feeling of self-accomplishment will make them want to develop that sense of problem solving.

Even now, 2 years later, that teaser still gives me chills. Thank goodness for future gamers like you who want to bring back the era we all miss. Next-gen has the potential to introduce this new generation of kids to the games we all grew up with when we were younger. If nothing else, it’s very lucrative.
